Winter Survival Kit for Your Car
No one ever expects to get stranded on the side of the road in a snowstorm, but it can, and does, happen. Here's what the National Weather Service says you should keep in your car, just in case:
Shovel. Even if you can't use it yourself, someone else might be able to help you. First Aid Kit. You should have one in the car all year long. Non-perishable food, such as granola bars and peanuts. Flashlight with extra batteries. Candles and matches. Extra clothing, sleeping bags or blankets for everyone. Tire chains. Battery-operated radio with batteries. Empty coffee can to be used to hold the burning candle. A single candle can radiate a surprising amount of heat. Booster cables. Again, even if you can't use them yourself, someone else might be able to use them to start your car. Cell phone with fully charged batteries. There are some areas where there is no cell coverage, but it's worth the investment, "just in case".
