January Happenings Jan. 4 1:00 Bingo. Join in the fun for just 5 cents per card per game. Half of the money collected goes to the center, the rest is given out as cash prizes to the winners. (We play 10 games, the last one being a coverall with double the prize money ). We play Bingo every Monday and Friday at 1:00 unless otherwise announced.
Jan. 5 9:00 Foot Care Clinic by appointment only. The Visiting Nurses hold a monthly clinic at the Center to perform basic foot care. The fee is $15. Clinics fill up very quickly; we are currently booking for February. 1:30 Basic Drawing with Sally Bellew. $5 for 2 lessons (2nd lesson on Jan. 19), payable at first lesson. Pre- registration required. Bring basic drawing supplies. 1:30 Senior Fitness with Laura Dykstra. $2.50 per class; no sign-up required. This class focuses on strength and balance and meets every Tuesday and Thursday unless otherwise noted.
Jan. 6 10:00 Poetry. Retired librarian Bill Kramer brings in resources and facilitates the discussion of pieces selected by the group. No sign up necessary; new participants always welcome. The group meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. 12:00 "Jess & No". The late Joe Pogar's eldest grandchild, Jessica Amidon, and his long-time companion, Winona Hary, will perform a tribute to him. Jessica currently plays with the Lexington (MA) Orchestra and is the principal violinist with the Reading (MA) Orchestra.

Jan. 8 12:45 Book Club. Marieke Sperry from Quechee Library will continue the book club that was started by the late Edye Lowell. The book chosen for January is "Midwives", a novel by nationally acclaimed Vermont author Chris Bohjalian. Set in Vermont, this novel details the dilemma of a midwife who performs an emergency caesarian under extreme circumstances. You do not need to have finished the book to participate in the discussion.

Jan 13. 8:45 Computer Assistance by appointment. See page 6 for details. 10:00 Health Clinic. The Visiting Nurses hold health clinics at the Center on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. They check blood pressure, weight and perform other basic screening procedures. There is no charge and no appointments are given. Be prepared for a short wait.
Jan. 19 10:30 "Together" Women's Group with Judy Adams. "5 Wishes": Does your family know what your wishes are should you become unable to speak for yourself? 12:30 "Guardian Ad Litem" Charles Hacker will present information about the VT court program and the role volunteers play in it. See related article on page 7.
Jan. 20 10:00 Ear Acupuncture. $10 for 10- week session. Pre-registration required. See page 6 for details. 12:30 "Wise Up on Meds" Shirley Montgomery, retired nurse educator, who previously taught at NH Technical Institute in Concord and Colby-Sawyer College in New London, NH, will present this AARP program.
