Director's Corner

It is hard to believe but we are now (as I write) fast approaching July. For me, it is equally hard to believe that I am approaching the end of my eighth month as your Executive Director. I guess there is much truth in the old saying that "time flies when you're having fun!!" It has been an exciting last several weeks here and I am happy to report that, among other things, the trips being planned are well received and interest has been very high. So much so that Regina, our Activities Coordinator, has set up a trip to Hildene in Manchester, Vermont, for August. This is the home of Abe Lincoln's son, Robert Todd Lincoln, who in his adult years was a successful business leader. This, along with trips to Maine in August, Saint-Gaudens and the Joseph Smith Memorial this month, makes for an exciting summer here at the Center. Additionally, we have some very nice program offerings here, which are included in the enclosed calendar. If you have any ideas for programs please do not hesitate to let me, Regina or Emily know OR we do have a suggestion box in our lobby area and you can leave us a note in it.

During the first week of June, we sent out an "appeal letter" to people who own property in the Town of Hartford. As many folks know, the Bugbee Center relies on donations for much of its support. While we do receive funding from the four towns we serve, it is still quite necessary to obtain additional financial support from generous donors, if we are going to keep the programs we have in place. Indeed, donations of different sorts make up about one-third of our annual revenue, and are an integral component in our operating budget. For those who can do so, I hope you will make a tax deductible donation so that we can continue our well received programs. And if you have given in the past, I thank you again for your support.

Come on in and enjoy the fun things we've got going. I look forward to seeing you here!!

1911 Model 85 Stanley Steamer
Open Touring Car

The Model 85 was made only in 1911. Don Bourdon of West Woodstock restored one in 1990 and has driven it about 40,000 miles since then. He will bring it to the Center on Wednesday, July 29th, weather permitting. After his presentation on the history of the Stanley Steamer at 12:30, 5 lucky door-prize winners will get to have a short ride in this remarkable car.
