Will You Need a TV Converter Box?

You may have heard that TV stations will stop broadcasting in analog after Feb. 17, 2009. This means that if you use a roof-top antenna or "rabbit ears", you will need to purchase a TV  converter box, or purchase a TV with a digital tuner, or connect your analog TV to a cable or satellite system in order to be able to watch   television. If you are connected to cable TV or a satellite system, you do not need a converter box.
Converter boxes are available at some retail stores now and range in price from about $50 to about $70.
If you need a converter box, the Federal     government will give you up to two $40 coupons to help pay for the cost of certified converters. (A separate box is needed for each TV.) To apply for the coupons, you may request them

  • By phone 1-888-388-2009
  • By mail: PO Box 2000, Portland OR 97208
  • By FAX 1-877-388-4632
The coupon application form is also available at Bugbee Senior Center. Requests for coupons must be received by March 31, 2009.
